Mummy's Mask (Session 2)
MUMMY'S MASK
BOOK ONE: THE HALF-DEAD CITY
PLAYERS: Ashley, Chris, Brooke, Ruthi, Tifa, Shana, Alli
A half-foot of water fills the room from the passage to the north. Lightning continues to crack across the top of the platform. Gratch tries to push the northern doors shut to stem the flow of the water coming in. Umie fires a crossbow bolt at the sarcophagus. Aisha tries to find the source of the lightning trap, but fails, so she climbs up onto the platform to try and take a stab at the sacrophagus, but also fails. Xenira heads up to help Gratch, shouting, "Push harder, you fool!" Quazzle also sees nothing but water everywhere. The electricity disperses despite Quazzle and Aisha's incompetence.
Another half-foot of water flows into the room, knocking Xenira prone. Gratch helps her back up and tries again for the door. Aisha steps back to spear the sarcophagus in the hinges. After Resnick misses a physical blast at it, the sarcophagus tries to entomb Quazzle inside it and then settles on slamming him.
Another half-foot of water flows in. Gratch continues trying to work the door down. Aisha spears it again, and Resnick this time strikes the sarcophagus with his earth blast and heavily weathers the sarcophagus. Xenira picks up her weapon, allowing the sarcophagus to punch her into unconsciousness. It knocks Quazzle out next after getting attacked by him.
Another half-foot of water flows in. Gratch slams the door shut while there's no more water flowing in. Xenira and Umie strike the sarcohpagus. Quazzle stabilizes himself and the sarcohpagus slams Raziya. Gratch looks back and realizes the party is fucked; while he runs over to join them, Aisha prompts him to help her corner the sarcophagus between them by standing over Quazzle's corpse. :') Friendship. Umie misses, distracted by Gratch's weak-ass punch, and Aisha spears the sarcophagus. Resnick misses another kinetic blast. Xenira still can't stabilize. The sarcophagus bites Raziya unconscious, but does not entomb her before it hits Gratch. After another round of failure, it entombs Gratch.
Slowly, Gratch begins to suffocate inside while the sarcophagus moves for Aisha. Umie makes horrible keening noises and rolls a nat 20 to hit and max damage. The sarcophagus shambles after Aisha again and knocks her unconscious in the water, drowning her. Umie pulls Aisha up out of the water, getting hit by the sarcophagus, and Gratch bursts out all of a sudden from inside the sarcophagus. The sarcophagus knocks Gratch unconscious. Umie tries to pull Gratch from the water.
The sarcophagus then smashes Umie and kills her, and Aisha and Gratch sink into the water. Aisha successfully stabilizes with a nat 20, narrowly avoiding drowning. Resnick still can't hit the sarcophagus. In like ten rounds, he has not managed.
Gratch continues to drown. Aisha drowns to death. Resnick kills the sarcophagus in the nick of time, then pulls Gratch out of the water. Resnick fails his heal check to stabilize Gratch, and Gratch dies on the platform.
Back in town, the remaining party members encounter the new party members, who also lost many party members. But they're sketchy looking: a tiefling with a scimitar, a human with a ranseur and crazy eyes, and a gnome. They found 750 gp worth of stuff in the tomb.
Resnick and Lesit bond over being merchant brokers who sell high, and Lesit begins asking Nava about Quazzle's bird status. The party mentions they lost three people, and Lesit notes how fortuitous it is. Xenira asks to make sure that they know how to not drown. The same group that came up to try to poach Raziya comes up to try to poach Lesit as well, but Lesit hisses that she already said no.
Nava asks what use they might be, and Resnick claims to be a geokineticist. Lesit and Nava continue talking shit, but Tindi leans down to point out that they could at least be meatshields. Lesit declares that they should join, and the others reluctantly accept but continue talking shit on the bird and the snake.
Lesit: [looks at Raziya] Do you unhinge your jaw or control the earth?
Raziya: No. I do neither of those things. [deadpan] I am a priest of Pharasma.
Lesit: Oh.
Xenira: You should have great respect for her. She is a priestess of life and death. Mostly death, something we are all very familiar with and live very close to, it seems. You would do well to show her respect.
Nava: And is she the only one who uses magic, among you?
Xenira: I use magic.
Resnick: I kind of … use magic.
Nava stares coolly, clearly not considering that magic.
Lesit announces that she worships a chaotic Cthulu god named Bokrug. Raziya, recognizing the name, grimaces and just says "Oh."
They get together and head to the drawing the next morning, where they get assigned the House of Panthuru.
